Coal direct liquefaction is a radiative reaction processing in high temperature and pressure. As for each coal liquefaction technics, the coal liquefaction reactor is the core part of the whole set of equipment. However, the scale up of the liquefaction reactor is still a question for us. The compelled circulation suspending bed was adopted in the coal direct liquefaction factory of ShenHua group. The technics is advanced in high mass transfer coefficient, better coal slurry mixing effect and less sediment possibility compared whit the traditional bubble column reactor. But the circulation pump is quite expensive, hard to handle and dangerous to run for long. The 973 program "Basic research on coal direct liquefaction" plan to adopt air loop reactor, the theory of the reactor is set a homocentric column in the reactor to realize liquid circulation due to the density difference between the draught tube and the downcomer. Meanwhile the liquid circulation will promote mass transfer and heat transfer. Compared with the circulation pump, the ALR technics kicked the expensive and risky pump away, and get the same or better effect, meanwhile the system stability will be promoted.Excellence does the ALR possess, it has never been utilized in the coal direct liquefaction area. In order to make this assumption come true and reform the technics, we must lucubrate the mass transfer of multiphase and the rule of reactor scale up. Provide the foundation for the industrialization of coal direct liquefaction.The size of coal and catalyzer is tiny(micro level)in the coal direct liquefaction production, so the gas-liquid-solid three phase flow in the reactor was simplified into a pseudo liquid and gas - pseudo-two-phase system. Based on this assumption, we carried through the experiment in the ALR platform with water, nitrogen and other chemicals. We gauged all the local parameter of the reactor, process experiment of liquid and gas shut off all at once. Base on the energy and materiel balance, we educe the model of ALR.
