The successful application of SEAM technique enriched the technical types in the field of special processing. It provides a practical technical means with highly efficient for processing hard electric materials. However, due to the lack of its processing mechanism and technology, SEAM technique has not yet been widely applied, especially blocked in the field of finish machining. This paper conducted an in-depth research on the surface integrity of workpieces processed by short arc machine, looking forward to resolving the problems of workpieces on surface integrity. This paper introduced the survey of SEAM, summarized the connotation of surface integrity of workpieces, clarified the importance of applying surface integrity in practical manufacture, and analyzed its purpose and economic application. In connection with the specific characteristics of SEAM, the design and realization of experimental scenario was accomplished. Jointed multifactor orthogonal experiments with single factor experiments and put the axe of heavy experimental assignment in the helve.By using mathematical statistics means of regression analysis , basic operating parameters were modeled, and the regression equations between various process parameters and surface integrity were created.Researched on basic operating parameters and analyzed the impact of the electrical parameters and non-electrical parameters to the surface integrity of the workpieces, clarified the relationship between processing efficiency and surface quality. Finally, the synthetic properties of workpieces surface processed by short arc machine were studied. By analyzing the change of the surface morphology, microcosmic crack and mechanical performance, gradually worked out a good processing conditions with a good technological characteristic for SEAM.
