With the implementation of the Grand Development Plan of Western China in the 21st century and the improvement of strategy position of the energy, the investment is more than before to the energy station. Changqing gas field is the biggest gas field in China and the storage of its petroleum and oil gas is the third in China National Petroleum Corporation. It is in the middle and south of Mu Us desert. In recent years, the company invests billions to the middle and north of the area every year. It is important to research the engineering and mechanical property. The result can be used to guide the engineering practice.The dissertation is based on the research project "The research of Mu Us desert Geotechnical Engineering and engineering application". Chang'an University teamed up with Xi'an Changqing Technology Engineering Co.Ltd to do the project. The problems which are existed in the development of oil and gas field building in desert area.The density and moisture content of the eolian sand in Mu Us desert is studied based on the field investigation and test. The regularity of granulometric composition is researched. Based on the X-Diffraction and micropolariscope we researched the chemical constitution and the microstructure of the eolian sand. The compacting properties and the compacting mechanism of eolian sand are studied based on the heavy compaction test. According to confined compression test, we understand the compression of eolian sand and the compression properties of the unsaturated eolian sand under static load. They can serve for the calculation of ground bearing capacity and the foundation deformation analysis. Also the straight scissors test and triaxial test are used to study the strength characteristics.The engineering application of eolian sand in Mu Us desert is studied based on the work which we did. According to the mortar test and the orthogonal test of composite mortar, we make sure that eolian sand as fine aggregate is practicability. Also by researching the different conditions of sluicing-siltation, we generalized and analyzed the rules and mechanics of compaction of the eolian sand foundation. The physics and mechanical property can be improved by changing the mixture ratio of bedding cushion. This research can help us to rational use desert sand.
