Ceramic foam has been primarily used to filter molten metal materials. However, filters available on the market mostly act badly in the aspects of flexural strength and thermal shock resistance. The research of high performance ceramic foam has engineering significance and application value.The study successfully prepared ceramic foam filter using Al2O3 as the main raw material by the polymeric sponge impregnation process. This paper studies the relation between addition of ammonium polyacrylate as dispersant and Ph value and the Stability of Slurry; The effect of solid content of slurry and addition of carboxymethyl cellulose as theological agent on the loading of the slurry on the polymeric sponge; The effect of pre-treatment of polymeric sponge on coating properties of polymeric sponge. ZrO2 and particles of Tic was added into the slurry in order to improve high-temperature performance of Al2O3 ceramic foam through the Mechanism of phase transformation toughening, tiny crack toughening and particle softening. The properties and microstructure of foam ceramics were analyzed by XRD, SEM methods.Experiment shows that the best stable slurry can be obtained by adding 2.0%quality content PAA-NH4 and adjusting pH is 9; the excellent rheological slurry can be obtained by adding 0.3%quality content CMC into slurry of 70% solid loading .The research indicated that process polymeric sponge by soaking them in 2.0%quality content alkaline solution of for 6 hours can improve the loading of the slurry on the polymeric sponge. Experiment also shows adding ZrO2 and particles of Tic can improve banding strength and thermal shock resistance of Al2O3 foam ceramic filter. The best banding strength and thermal shock resistance can be obtained by adding 15%quality content ZrO2 and 5%quality content particles of Tic in slurry, bend strength was 2.61MPa.
