The first part of this work was to study the preparation of TiO2-SiO2 microparticles composite by a emulsion method and the application of the microparticles for selective hydrogenation of acetylene. The effects of water/surfactant ratios, amount of cosurfactant, concentrations of reactants and calcining temperature on the morphology of the prepared microparticles were investigated to find the optimal conditions for synthesizing TiO2-SiO2 microparticles. Then the TiO2-SiO2 microparticles were applied as support to load Pd catalyst, and its performance for selective acetylene hydrogenation reaction was evaluated. The second part of this work was to synthesize Cu2O particles by the method of emulsions and ultrasonic, respectively. The preparation conditions for both methods were investigated to obtain fine Cu2O microparticles. And the Cu2O microparticles prepared by ultrasonic method showed better morphology, probably due to the intensification of ultrasonic. These microparticles were then used as catalyst to oxidize methyl orange under sunlight, and the effects of the illumination intensity and time, the pH value of the solution on the oxidation reaction were investigated.
