With developing of the industry on electrons and electrical engineering the needs of flame-retardant nylon 6 is growing rapidly. Though the halide flame retardant has good performance, most of them give out heavy smoke with poisonous gas while burning. Now they had been already forbidden to use in some developed countries. With improving of the environmental standards china, the halogen flame retardant will be the necessary trend. The halogen-free flame-retardant PA6 that makes environment friendly will hold the predominance of the market competition. So it is very important to study the flame-retarded PA6 of halogen-free and non-smoke.In this paper, flame-retarded glass fiber reinforced PA6(GFPA6) composites are prepared by adding phosphoric acid (PBA), modified melamine (PNSA) and silicate. The synergistic effects of PBA, PNSA, silicate, GF and chain extender on the properties of flame retardant GFPA6 are investigated. The key works and conclusions are listed as following:1. The flame retardancy of GFPA6 is improved obviously by the flame retardant effect of condensed phase (PBA). The vertical combustion grade of GFPA6 comes up to FV-0 when the content of PBA is 16wt%;2. Silicates can improve the flame retardancy of GFPA6/PBA due to the enhancement of the char layer while burning, C-3 has the better synergistic effect among the three kinds of silicates, the flame retardancy of composite material is further improved due to the elimination of "candlewick effect" if its stick structure is crushed into particles;3. Since GF can strengthen the char layer, the flame retardancy of PA6 is improved resulting in an increased content of GF. GF-2 shows the better enhancement effect of PA6 due to the better compatibility with matrix;4. The molten drop can be prevented during combustion by adding chain extender owing to its effect of increasing the viscosity of PA6. With the adding of chain extender, the mechanical properties of composite material are improved remarkably because the intermolecular forces of PA6 are strengthened.
