Accurately predicting the performance of steel materials according to the manufacturer conditions has been Steel-maker's dream for many years. However, iron and steel materials are made up of a lot of elements and production process is a very complicated system, so it's difficult to predict the performance of materials accurately according to a purely theoretical calculation. Formerly it was significant limited that the development of materials depended on the knowledge and experience of engineers to a large extent. In recent years, with the advance of materials research and the deepening of the accumulation of experience, we have made great progress in physical metallurgy and could accurately understand the metallurgical phenomena occurring in iron and steel materials. We can get a variety of mathematical models on metallurgical phenomena through a quantitative description of a variety of metallurgical phenomena. This allows the use of computers to predict the microstructures and ultimate performances of steels. The introduction of computer technology will have a lot of advantages, for example, greatly simplifying the experimental research work, shortening the research time, economizing research funding and accelerating the development of new products, stabilizing product quality, etc.In order to accurately predict the properties and microstructures of steels, determining the mathematical model of the o microstructure's evolution and the relationship between properties and microstructures in the production process is the key. A number of industrialized countries have developed computer software for predicting the performance and microstructures of steels and is successfully used in predicting and controlling the performance of hot strip rolling.The subject analyzed and discussed the mathematical models of various physical metallurgy phenomena in hot strip rolling and briefly introduced the applications of the computer used in the production process of hot rolling.'setup calculation and microstructures prediction software for hot strip rolling'was developed on this basis and it can be used for the determination of the design parameters and the establishment of rolling technology system on the existing production line as well as optimizing parameters for the design of new production lines. It was proved that the software had high accuracy by comparing the predicted values by the software with the actual production data.
