According to request of fault monitoring and diagnosis for synchronous gearbox of high-speed wire rod mill, design on-line fault monitoring and diagnosis system with LabVIEW which is graphical virtual instrument development platform. The system has been successfully applied to E-gang high-speed wire rod mill production line, has detected early gearbox failure many times, avoided the occurrence of major accidents and made an important contribution to the economic benefits for the enterprise.The paper primarily researches the development of system of condition monitoring and fault diagnosis and the implementing method of hardware and software modules. The development of system includes test point selection, sensors installation, signal pre-process by hardware and signal analysis platform constructed by LabVIEW. Hardware module includes signal process box with independent intellectual property right, conversion interface and NI 6220 data acquisition board. Software module uses LabVIEW, which is used to collect and process signals, achieve kinds of algorithms, store and display the fault information. The methods of process signal include a time-domain, frequency-domain, wavelet, cepstrum and calculation kinds of function feature.System can simultaneously monitor gearbox in 24 hours, complete the on-line diagnosis and alarm, on-line diagnosis, and record the alarm data to the database for inquiring and analyzing.A patent for this research has been declared, whose name is "An initial on-line monitoring and fault diagnosis system of synchronous gearbox", the application number is 200810048348.2.
