With the development of cryogenic insulation technology, Multi-Layer insulation has been widely applied in many industrial fields. However, Adiabatic vacuum is the key factor of ensuring the crogenic vessels's insulation preperties. In order to achieve good insulation effect, the general requirements for vacuum is above 1×10-2Pa .But leakage and degassing will lead to the vaccum's decreasing and affect the vessel's insulation properties. Setting adsorbents is very important to maintaining the vessel's vaccum. Many researches show that the hydrogen is main reason for the vaccum's decreasing. Palladium oxide is a high-quality hydrogen absorption agent. Recently, palladium oxide is a high-quality hydrogen absorption agent. Studies for the hydrogen adsorption of the palladium oxide were rarely reported in domestic. So it is very necessary to study the hydrogen absorption characteristics of the palladium oxide which is applied in the cryogenic vessels. In this paper, several experiments were carried out to investigate the hydrogen absorption characteristics of the palladium oxide which is applied in the cryogenic vessels. These tests could be divided into three parts, one was mainly focused on the leakage and degassing rate, while the other concerned the hydrogen absorption characteristics of the palladium oxide, and another was to find out the mechanism of hydrogen absorption. The results show that properly usage of mixed absorbent can decrease the leak and outgassing rates and prolong the vessel life effectively. For different cryogenic vessels, it is suggested to choose different components of hydrogen absorption agent according to the the actual situation. palladium oxide's hydrogen adsorption is both physical adsorption and chemical adsorption , and the the physical adsorption capacity is much larger than the chemical adsorption.Model of the palladium oxide's hydrogen adsorption was established in this paper. Good results were received when applying this model in low pressure. All efforts made in this paper were aim at the application of the palladium oxide in industrial cryogenic vessels, the result of this paper can provide good suggestions in this kind of industrial application.
