Activated carbon fiber-ACF is an excellent environmental functional material, it have many advantages such as:large specific surface area,large adsorption capacity,easy to be modified and so on,it is used in environmental field widely.Researches show that ACF has better biocompatibility.The biodegradation and ACF adsorption process were combined with together in new biological activated carbon fiber technology in recent years,and the application of ACF in wastewater treatment field was extended further.In this paper,the polyacrylonitrile-based activated carbon fiber(ACF) was studied,it was modified and used in brewery wastewater as bio-carrier,the affection of modification on its surface characteristic was investigated,the affection of its surface characteristic on biocompatibility and bio-film culturing was studied,the best hydraulic parameters were discussed in brewery wastewater treatment under low temperature and the kinetics of substrate degradation was studied.The main content in this paper as follows:1) The affection of thermal oxidation,nitric acid impregnation and hydrogen peroxide impregnation modification on PAN-ACF's surface functional groups,the amount of oxygen-containing functional groups,surface microstructure and specific surface area were studied,analysis technology such as FT-IR,Boehm titration,SEM and BET were used to characterize the PAN-ACF before and after modification.The results show that three modifications affected the PAN-ACF surface characteristic remarkably,hydrogen peroxide impregnation modification improved the specific surface area greatly,thermal oxidation modification reduced the specific area but its surface amount of oxygen-containing functional groups was improved remarkably.2) The bio-film culturing and start-up experiment was carried contrastively in four identical experimental device in which the PAN-ACF before and after modification were used as bio-carrier,the affection of difference between surface characteristic on bio-film culturing and start-up was observed and the first-rank bio-carrier was chose.3) The thermal oxidation modified PAN-ACF was used as bio-carrier to treat brewery wastewater in biological contact oxidation technology.The result show that: the running status of this experimental device is stable;the effluent water quality meets the discharge standard of brewery enterprise in table 1 of discharge standard of brewery industry wastewater.The best hydraulic parameters were studied under low temperature and the kinetics of substrate degradation was analyzed in brewery wastewater treatment,the degradation kinetic parameter is below:Umax is 0.781g. g-1.d-1,Ks is 132.3mg.L-1.
