In current days, the environmental problem becomes increasingly serious.It is one of the most essential part of protecting the environment how to control the air pollution.In order to control air pollution efficiently, we should make scientific assessment of air quality. So it is very important for us to study the current situation of air pollution objectively, to control the air pollution efficiently and to realize the strategy of the sustainable development.The development of information technology, especially the Artificial Intelligence Technology, paved the way for the scientific and accurate air quality assessment in urban areas. Neutral network and Fuzzy system are simulation system of Intelligence of the people.Both of them can establish a non-linear model when they are given a system's input/output data. But Fuzzy system is different from Neutral Network in some aspects. Neutral Network can learn from examples and has a strong ability of studying.However, to make Neutral Network's results satisfied,it needs a lot of training data. On the other hand, the relationship of input/output obtained by Neutral Network is hardly to express in an easy accepted way by human beings. On the contrary, Fuzzy system is based on an easily expressed way-'if-then', which is easily accepted by human beings. Its constringency is rapid because Fuzzy system is based on the professtional knowledge of experts. However, it is a challenge how to create and adjust the subjection functions and fuzzy rules automatically.On the basis of the analysis of the basic principles, the algorithm and the varied pattern features of Artificial Neural Network (ANN), and the introduction the basic principles of Fuzzy Mathematics, according to the demand and trait of the air quality assessment, this thesis combines Fuzzy Mathematics and ANN organically and develops Neural Network in series with Fuzzy System(NN-FS) model and integration model of Fuzzy Neural Network (FNN).The models are tested and case studies show that the models have the unique characteristics with the clear physical significance in the assessment process and the assessment results are objective and accuracy. Then a new air quality assessment method is proposed.The applications of NN-FS and FNN to air quality assessment have a bright future and it is not only feasible in theory but also important in practice.
