The article is mainly concerned on the designing and testing process of a new PTV (particle tracking velocimetry) rheometer and an extrusion. And PTV rheomter is used to study the wall slip of isotactic polypropylene. In the first chapter, mainly concerned on the designing and testing process of a new PTV (particle tracking velocimetry) rheometer for polymer melts. Rheometer on the markets is introduced and discussed about their properties. According to the distinct properties of polymer melts and PTV rheometer for polymer solutions at Professor Shiqing Wang's lab at University of Akron., improvement is done for the designing. For example, the range of testing is enlarged by using accessories of high quality to simulate the producing process at factories. And high-speed CCD is used to track such a process. With the help of mechanical design and software control high-speed motor, high-level transducer and high-speed CCD is combined for the new PTV rheometer for polymer melts. As such a rheometer comes out some adjustments are done for the improvement. And finally, a perfect test is performed to claim the success of the whole instrument. In the second chapter, PTV is used to study melt iPP under LAOS for wall slip. We discovered that wall slip happens under high frequency shear. And it happens on the interface. Torque parameters can be combined with velocity field, the melt rheological properties was studied. In the third chapter in situ extrusion was designed and production for FTIR and X-ray scattering. Flow-induced conformational ordering in the supercooled isotactic polypropylene is studied by in situ IR device. At temperature around the normal melting point of iPP, even longer helices can be induced by shear and the formation of the long helixes need an induction and growth process. In the meantime, the use of situ X-ray device found no crystal when there is the formation of the long helixes. Flow-induced precursor may be a liquid crystal phase.
