Chemical analysis and spectroscopic analysis are the existing methods to analy water composite organic indicators. Compared with chemical method, the later is new analytical technique, with the advantages of high speed, no chemical reagents and simple operation. However, the existing water quality of the spectral method is over single spectrum analyzer with low accuracy. On the other hand, portable analyzer is developing trend, because it can quickly on-site analysis of water pollution, is widely used in large-scale environmental monitoring and emergency situations.Guided by the spectroscopic analysis theory, we designed and developed the portable water analyzer based on multi-spectrum by combinnation of UV absorption spectrum and fluorescence spectrum. The analyzer has the characteristics of portablity, low power consumption and high accuracy. The work of this paple is organized as follows:1. An overview of the existing water quality analysis of the UV absorpting method and fluorescence method, the advantages and disadvantages of them is presented. The idea of spectral integration is proposed. So the paple elaborates spectral modeling method and the hardware and software platform of portable instrumentation.2. The portable Water Analyzer is designed. According to portable and low-power requirements, several different optical systems and several solutions of developing platform are designed. By comparing the experiments and performance tests, the final solution is determined.3. The various components within the portable analyzer are achieved, developing an integrated multi-wavelength laser and the detecting sample pool which is to measure weak spectrum. Some software is wrote to control peripheral devices.4. The prototype of portable water analyzer with high integration and portability is achieved. Additionally, the UI software is completed. The prototype could works properly and successfully.5. Comparison between the prototype and French UV-portable water analyzer attests that proformance of our prototype is excellent. A large-scale field application experiment has been done in eastern China.
