Compared with single crystal and glass and other conventional laser materials, Nd:YAG (neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet) transparent ceramics material has good optical performance and mechanical strength and stability of the physical properties. Nd:YAG transparent ceramics have been a topic of concern, Luminescence in the field of laser and has been widely applied, owing to its good properties. In this dissertation, Nd:YAG superfine powders were obtained through solid state method, sol-gel method. The as-prepared Nd:YAG powders were uniaxially pressed at 10MPa. Then poly-crystal Nd:YAG ceramics with good optical properties were fabricated by sintering the samples under vacuum atmosphere (×10-3Pa) .The preparation techniques of transparent ceramics and the sintering processes were discussed systemically in this dissertation.The solid state reaction method, sol - gel method of preparation of Nd:YAG nano-powders of the process and transparent ceramic sintering mechanism were studied; then the sintering system control method was preliminary studied and finally got a more reasonable sintering system. The X-ray diffraction meter (XRD), the scanning electron microscope (SEM), the ultraviolet obvious spectrophotometer (UV-VIS), the spectrum analyzers and other test instruments and means were used to characterize the Nd:YAG ultrafine powder and Nd:YAG polycrystalline ceramics in the experiment. The relationship between powder forming methods, sintering system and transparent ceramic micro-morphology and transmittance was fully studied. Finally identified the factors influence the transparent of the ceramics.
