In this paper, we synthesized two ligands 4-sulfo benzotriazole and 5-methyl-4-sulfo benzotriazole. Using them and 1,10-phenanthroline or 2,2'-bipyridine as mixed ligands,13 complexes were synthesized by reacting with different metal ions. And the complexes structures were studied by IR, UV/vis, TG and single crystal X-ray diffraction, etc. This paper consists of the following three sections:1. Using benzotriazole and 5-methyl benzotriazole as raw materials, oleum as sulfonating agent, mercury sulfate as a catalyst, under the temperature of 110-125℃,4-sulfo benzotriazole and 7-methyl-4-sulfo benzotriazole were synthesized. The structures were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared spectroscopy and mass spectrometry.2. Under solution synthetic method, ten complexesl-10 were synthesized by the reactions of 4-sulfo benzotriazole or 7-methyl-4-sulfo-benzotriazole,1,10-phenanthroline and transitional metal cation(Co2+, Cd2+, Mn2+, Ni2+ and Zn2+). The crystal structure of complex 1 belongs to triclinic, space group P-1 with unit cell parameters:a=11.080(4)(?), b=12.177(5)(?), c=12.637(5)(?),α=109.612(5)°,β=93.713(5)°,γ=94.524(5)°, V=1593.6(10)(?)3, Z=2.3. Under solution synthetic method, three complexes11-13 were synthesized by the reactions of 7-methyl-4-sulfo-benzotriazole,2-(pyridin-2-yl)pyridine and transitional metal cation (Ni2+, Co2+ and Zn2+). The crystal structure of complex 11 belongs to orthorhombic, space group Pccn with unit cell parameters:a=30.142(4)(?), b=10.4659(16)(?), c=18.497(3)(?), V=5835.1(15)(?)3,Z=8.
