With the development of the modern science and technology, the machine tools have already developed into a stage of automation with high-speed, good-efficiency and a high precision therefore the structural components of machine tools are on the increasingly high performance requirements. Currently, the structural design of machine tools use more traditional design methods, which are lack effective design of rational basis, and it is difficult to meet the requirements of machine tool product development, so the modern design methods make more sense.This paper researches on structural design method of Complex parts of CNC turning center. The topology optimization theory and structural design are combined to form a new structural design method. Innovative structural design of the turning center bed and bed slide had been finished and it had obtained a good effect. The main research works are focused in the following aspects:(1) Firstly, a method of structural design is presented, which consists mainly of three parts: functional constraints, conceptual model, and the structural design. And analyze the three major steps of the innovative method of structural design in detail.(2) The processing mode, loading features and the rules of load simplifying of CNC turning center are analyzed. The mechanical model of bed and slide are established, which provide the basic conditions for the innovation designed of turning center Complex parts.(3) The method of structural design based on topology optimization is applied to the design of the turning center bed. The topology optimization model of turning center bed is established through the analysis of the functional constraints. Topology optimization is carried out for the section of turning center bed based on OptiStruct software. On this basis, the conceptual design model is built. Extract and optimize the key parameters of the turning center bed to find the final scheme using the theory of structural optimization. Compare with the original scheme and achieve good results, which verify the application of structural design method in fixed components of machine tool.(4) The method of structural design based on topology optimization is applied to the design of the turning center slide. Through functional constraint analysis, conceptual model, and the structural design of the turning center slide, the innovative structural design of the slide have completed. Compare with the original scheme and get a better design scheme of the slide, which verify the application of structural design method in moving components of machine tool.
