Nature provides many novel properties which have close relation with the special structures of the natural creatures. In this work, some unique properties existing in nature and the correlation between the properties and the structures of them were introduced. Subsequently, the compound eyes of the butterfly and the properties the eyes have were investigated. Bio-inspired by the nature, nanosphere lithography technology was adopted to fabricate the artificial eye structure. Technologies of MOCVD and electron beam were used to replicate the hierarchical structures of the biotemplates. After replication, not only the micro-and nanostructures on the corneal surface but also the excellent properties of photonic, anti-wetting and anti-reflectance were intactly inherited in the interfacial materials. The properties mentioned above of the biotemplates and the artificial structures were compared in detail. The main content of this thesis is listed as follow:1. The butterfly was endowed with typical compound eye structures. Micro-scaled ommatidia showed hexagonal closed packed on the corneal surface. The ommatidia were not smooth, furthermore, they were consisted by thousands of nanoscaled nipples on them, so formed a kind of micro-and nanostructures.2. The butterfly compound eyes performed obvious photonic, anti-wetting and anti-reflectance properties.3. Low-temperature MOCVD and electron beam technology were used to replicate the refine structures of the butterfly. Not only the hierarchical design but also the properties the eyes have were intactly inherited in the interface material.4. In order to study the effect of the surface structures on the properties mentioned above, two typical eye-structured interfaces and the corresponding flat ones were compared. The results showed that the rougher the surface is, the better the properties are.5. Stable photo-response can also be achieved on this novel interface by alternating the ultraviolet (UV) irradiation and dark storage condition.6. The technology of nanosphere lithography was adopted to fabricate the artificial eye-structures. Be used as the templates, they were also modified by the ZnO and Pt. These artificial structures also have good photonic, anti-wetting and anti-reflectance.7. By comparing the different sized PS templates, the one constructed with 200 nm PS nanospheres had the best properties, which was consistent with the natural design.
