In this dissertation, fourteen imidazolines have been designed and synthesized. The synthetic methodology of the imidazolines has been studied to establish the fundament for the further application of these novel small organocatalysts.These catalysts were screened in the asymmetric Baylis-Hillman reaction of aromatic aldehyde with methyl vinyl ketone and found the catalyst 46 with the best catalytic efficiency. The influence of solvent, reactive temperature, catalyst loading and etc on the reactive activity and selectivity were investigated systematically and resulted in the optimal reaction conditions that reactive temperature was r.t., THF as solvent and 20% catalyst loading was used. The asymmetric Baylis-Hillman reaction of aromatic aldehyde with methyl vinyl ketone proceeded under the optimal conditions to result in 96% yield and up to 79% ee.
