The efficient multi-functional non-toxic borate ester products, which wear off a new upsurge in anti-wear agent researching because of its green, environmentally friendly, good resistance. The nitrogen-containing borate has attracted extensive concern of friction world-wide in recent years. at present, the primary issues of the development of china's machinery industry is in development, researching and trial production of new metal cutting fluid products. It is no doubt that the application of the nitrogen-containing borate provide a new way to solve this problem. The nitrogen-containing borate was prepared and the study of its application in metal cutting fluid was also carried out in this article. (1)Three kinds of fatty acid diethanolamides were prepared via two-step synthesis method, which overcame the negative aspect of its strict requirements on labor protection, fireproof and explosion prevention, the purity of products obtained achieved the level of methyl ester method, three kinds of alkyl imidazolines were prepared by improving the traditional preparation process, control temperature in different reaction stages. The improved method saves raw materials and avoid waste of energy. (2)The target product borate ester was prepared through a new method for the first time and the reaction mechanism was investigated preliminarily. the best preparation technology of imidazoline borate was acquired:for lauric acid imidazoline borate, materials ratio: nboric acid:lauric acid diethanolamide:butanol=1:1.3:1.2,ωsilica:lauric acid=1.2%, the reaction temperature 200℃,time 6.5h; for stearic acid/oleic acid Imidazoline borate, materials ratio: nboric acid:stearic/oleic acid imidazoline:butanol=1:1.1:1.3,ωsilica:stearic/oleic acid=1.7%,the reaction temperature 240℃, time 8.5h, the shortcomings such as high temperature, high energy and long reaction time exists in direct preparation method was conqured by this method which got the highest yield 49% and 42% respectively. (3)The effects of temperature, time and materials ratio on the reaction conditions were surveyed and the best preparation conditions of the intermediates and the products were maintained by single factor experiments; the structure of the product were characterized by use of FT-IR, MS, NMR and other methods. The results showed that the product's spectrum was consistented with the literature. (4)The preparation process and the best formula of cutting fluid which applied nitrogen-containing borate was designed, and the experiment research on friction and wear of the cutting fluid was carried, the test results showed that:when additives concentration approaching to 2%, the product can significantly improve the maximum non-seizure load of cutting fluid, and oleic acid imidazoline borate can effectively reduce the wear scar diameter, when additives concentration was 1.5%, the wear scar diameter is of the smallest and also minimal with load changed, which exhibits good extreme pressure and antiwear performances of the nitrogen-containing borate. Currently, the extreme pressure and antiwear performances of this type of new cutting fluid was rarely reported, the author'work provide a theoretical basis for the develop and application of the new cutting fluid. (5)the performance of the self-made cutting fluid was tested conducted by the national standard, the results showed that a number of indicators of cutting fluid are better than the national standard, which reflects multiple additional effects and provide a basis for broadening the application prospect of nitrogen-containing borate.
