The capability of microwaves to penetrate cloud and rain has placed the weather radar in an unchallenged position for remotely surveying the atmosphere.In the atmosphere,energy and water cycle are the most important factors to affect the global day of climate change and cloud links these two cycle and precipitation is the cycle of one of these two basic processes.At present, the cloud has become a global climate model.Also it is the most difficult to determine in all elements of weather.The distribution, evolution and characteristics of clouds and rain for the study of global climate change and weather forecasting is a very important role. The traditional means of measuring cloud observations have been unable to meet the actual needs. Millimeter-wave cloud radar is an effective method to make up the traditional means of measuring cloud.This paper discusses the millimeter-wave radar in the application of meteorological observations.It designes a millimeter wave cloud radar according to weather target and the weather radar equation. First,this paper describes the various components of the millimeter wave cloud radar from the radar set.Then, the measuring principle and the signal processing algorithms are introduced. This paper demonstrates the use of the feasibility of millimeter-wave radar measurements of clouds.From the various subsystems, it gives a Ka-band millimeter-wave cloud radar measurements design and the feasibility through calculation and simulation demonstrate. Finally, an actual observation example of the radar is gived and it is compared with the actual weather conditions in order to demonstrate the accuracy of the design.
