Anthropogenic emissions of halogenated greenhouse gas are the key factors which significantly give rise to stratospheric ozone-layer depletion and global warming. With the rapid industrialization and economic development, China has played an increasingly important role in the production and consumption of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Pay attention to the emissions and phase-out of ODS (Ozone Depletion Substances) in China is very important. The emissions of halogenated greenhouse gas can be assessed via the "bottom-up" method, but this method is not good enough to real-time evaluate the reduction processes and effects. Therefore, we need to accumulate long-time series observational data of halogenated greenhouse gases and model result to inverse the emissions and source distributions of halogenated greenhouse gases in China.FLEXPART is a Lagrangian particle tracking air dispersion model which was developed by Norwegian Institute for the investigations of air quality. The development of FLEXPART model and its applicability to air quality studies in Beijing have been discussed in this paper. Based on the preliminary study, we found FLEXPART model can reproduce the major characteristics of CO variation at Shangdianzi station. Model results can capture the major characteristics of source region distributions for CO in Beijing and its surrounding areas. Our preliminary study indicates that FLEXPART model is applicable to the investigations of air quality in Beijing. In this study, we combined FLEXPART model results with observation data of halogenated greenhouse gas at Shangdianzi atmospheric background station during 2009 to discuss the inverse method of anthropogenic emissions of halogenated greenhouse gases in China. We made some attempts in data screening, research area choosing and a priori source setting and then finally get the inversion results. It is showed that anthropogenic emissions of HCFC-22 and CFC-11 in China during 2009 were up to 62.4kt and 9.16 kt, respectively, which is similar with other scholars. Something should be noted is that the source region distributions at some areas have bias with the real situations. The accumulation of more long-time series of observational data of different stations and the development of inversion algorithm in the future are expected to improve the inverse results. This work provided the basic data and scientific support for related scientific researches, the domestic requirements and the fatal policy for Chinese government.
