N-phenyl maleimide (hereinafter referred to as N-PMI uniformly), is a heat-resistant modifier which can increase the softening point of ABS resin. And as a practical high heat modifier, N-phenyl Maleimide has attracted many chemists to carry out their synthesis. This study focuses on the synthesis of the heat resistant modifier N-phenyl Maleimide and the research of its quality improvement. It consists of the following four chapters:Firstly, it is an introduction for N-phenyl-maleimide about the nature, application and market prospects, and also a review about its synthetic methods and techniques.Secondly, it has developed synthetic methods of the possibility of industrial production, and finally we make choice of the azeotropic line taking strong acid as cyclic dehydration to synthesize N-PMI. Base on the successful synthesis of products, various factors influencing the N-PMI synthesis are subjected to experiment, and ultimately the optimum reaction conditions are determined. According to the established optimum conditions for small scale and pilot production, the product obtained in the test fail on the purity of N-PMI import quality, and therefore further research has been done for improving the quality of N-PMI. The product purity has been improved successfully through modifying part of the original process conditions by increasing the control analysis to redefine the cyclization reaction time. After groping in the post-processing to increase heat filter, the product quality has been improved.Thirdly, Select waste treatment methods with industrial feasibility.Fourthly, it describes the standards used in testing and quality controlling.Finally, it shows an application report before and after the process improvement. Trial results indicate that the production of N-PMI meets the basic quality of N-PMI to import.In this study, the optimal process conditions are determined and verified in the pilot test device for providing a basis for industrial production in the future.
