Large amounts of waste are discharged in iron and steel production,and causd serious harm to the environment. As China's economic development model changes from the resource consuming to the environment-friendly mode, how to use these solid wasts effectily is an important issue for metallurgy researcher. Submerged arc furnace slag is a kind of metallurgical slag, although in recent years, many research results for the utilization of slag are workde out, but it is not enough. Through the analysis by physical and chemical properties of the submerged arc furnace slag, writer found out that the slag contains a lot of material which is good for desulfurization.,so in this paper, the desulphurizing ability of submerged arc furnace slag was studied.First,the desulphurizing ability of desulfurizer whose main raw material is submerged arc furnace slag were studied in the laboratory,got the components of new desulfurizer which has better desulphurizing ability by Using the orthogonal experiment. The results show that:the new desulfurizer can achieve good results, the desulfurization rate can reach 70%.To do a industrial test by using the new desulfurizer, found that the new desulfurizer can replace part of desulfurizer used in industrial production for the steel which has less demanding on the composition.This paper also used calcium carbide residue as coal sulfur capture sorbents,studied the effect of burning temperture,Ca/S mlo ratio, the size of coal particle and burning time on sulfur capture ratio,it was found that Ca/S showed the most distinct influence.On the condition of the Ca/S is 2.5, the size of coal particle is below 130 mesh,,the burning temperture is 800℃and the burning time is 1.5h,the sulfur capture ratio got 84.51% the best result.The experiment confirmed that whether submerged arc furnace slag used as desulfurizer of molten steel,or calcium carbide residue used for coal sulfur capture sorbents,they all can achieve good results,and the material costs lower,so it can Improve the economic and environmental benefits in production.
