The "white pollution" caused by waste polymer in Packaging not only pollute the environment, but also is a waste of resources. In this study, considering the environmental and economic point, the recycled packaging polymer (waste EPS, waste EVA and waste PVC), instead of the ordinary polymer modifier, were acted as modifier of the paving asphalt. The mechanism of modification was studied by the microstructure, organizational structure and analysis of performance of modified asphalt. On the basis of a large number of experiments, FT-IR spectrums of the raw asphalt and modified asphalt shows that the main functional groups of raw asphalt has not changed after modified. It indicates the modification of asphalt by packaging waste polymer is a physical effect, i.e. physical blending modification. Micro-structure analysis shows that after high-speed shear, the existence of the polymer in the asphalt mainly is micron particles, a very small number of molecules and molecular chains are at dissolved state and part of the macromolecules at entangled and swelling state disperse in asphalt. The swelling effect of waste polymer uniformly dispersed by high-speed shear in the asphalt and the formation of the network structure of the modified asphalt are the main reasons of modification. In this issue, the recycled packaging waste polymer as modifier is adopted to carry on the modified experiment, which not only greatly alleviate the environmental pollution caused by waste packaging polymer and save resources, but also improve the overall performance of the asphalt while reducing the modified costs. The study of the microstructure and the mechanism of modified asphalt, for the promotion of high-performance modified bitumen materials, provide an experimental basis and theoretical basis.
