Steel cord belt conveyor which is widely used in many applications especially in coal enterprises with its significant advantages is one of the common large continuous transportation equipments. However, the fractures of steel cord conveyor belt were occurred constantly causing huge economic losses, even heavy casualties. The reasons for most accidents of fractures were the motion and fracture of belt joints according to current statistics. Steel cord conveyor belt is mostly applied in long-distance transportation, and then steel cord belt has lots of vulcanized connectors. It is hard to make the strength of the belt connector maintaining a rating in long-term working, so the connector of steel cord conveyor belt became the weakest part in the whole steel cord conveyor belt. Thence, steel cord conveyor belt vulcanization-connector has become the detected focus in safety production of coal mine.The existing detection equipments had such shortcomings as high price, non-real time and not easy to manipulate and maintain, so the author did a great deal of theoretical research and exploration especially in the application of detection equipments of steel cord conveyor belt in coal mine, and then a detection system for steel cord conveyor belt was proposed based on virtual instrument.This paper discussed the purpose and significance of the research and summarized the world's developments of detection technology, and finally described manufacturing processes and standard parameters of belt joints. Then the author designed a detection system with virtual instrument for steel cord conveyor belt.In the hardware, a multi-channel, high-speed, synchronous data acquisition system was built for conveyor belt steel cord signals with NI Company M Series data acquisition card PCI-6224. In this section, the principle and working-circuits of the magnetic memory array sensor were studied, and the selection and performance parameters were researched for data acquisition card. Thus the detection system was completed. In the software, the data acquisition module, filtering module, data display, data storage and query modules were designed and completed by LabVIEW. In view of multiple signals of steel cord in conveyor belt, it accomplished the design of the sensor signal acquisition and two data acquisition cards synchronization in data acquisition design. Considering the noise of coal mine environment, in the module of filtering, it mainly used the Butterworth band-pass filter and comb filter to eliminate noise in the original signal. Because of the amount of stored data and strength structure in the subject, it made use of unique TDMS in LabVIEW to storage and inquiry data. Finally, the test results of detecting steel cord belt were analyzed in detail and the result showed that this design is feasible.In this paper, the detection system of steel cord conveyor belt has short development cycle, low cost and high reliability. It can steady work and possess a friendly user interface. It is the first time that virtual instrument technology was used to the detection of steel cord conveyor belt and is a methodological innovation. This new detection method on steel cord conveyor belt provides a protection device and technical support for the coal production.
