SBR (sequencing batch reactor)and its optimized techniques have been applied to dispose of municipal sewage. Nevertheless, modification is still to be desired The SBR process control is complex in view of various SBR types. and when it comes to the requirements of denistrification and dephosphorization, one operational cycle is generally divided into 5 phases every of which is under different controlling conditions; the time-consuming gravitational separation is commonly adopted to remove water from sludge which cannot rule out the possibility of sludge bulking and during which all bio-chemical reactions reach an stand still . The experimental method will combine suspended filling and particle filtration, employing sequencing batch reactor activated sludge process(SGSBR) to characterize the nitrogen and organic matter removal and SGSBR operational modeling.The method of calculation of gas demand of blast aeration is discussed to solve problems in calculating the gas demand of blast aeration, so that the calculated result can accord better with factual aeration process. Problems in calculating the gas demand of blast aeration were analyzed. The influence of water depth on gas volume and gas specific surface area and the influence of retention time of bubble on gas demand was also analyzed on the basis of the gas formula and the two-film theory. According to the data from the aeration experiment and some documents, the methods of acquiring values of related factors were discussed. The comparison of calculated results was made with an example.In this paper, the field experiment of treatment of combined wastewater was carried out to study the removal efficiency of COD and nitrogen by the pilot setup with suspended packing material and the nitrification effect of the reactor in sequencing batch. The dissolved oxygen concentration is controlled over 3mg/L. The percentage of removed nitrogen is between 50%~90%. The percentage of removed COD is about 70%. The nitrogen can be efficiently removed under the condition of high dissolved oxygen concentration. The suspended solid concentration of the filter layer effluent is low by means of control of drainage conditions。The backwash is easy and the discharge rate is high.An experiment in biological treatment of domestic wastewater by SGSBR was carried out and studied, the results showed that the nitrification effect of the reactor in sequencing batch mode was not as good as that in continuous flow mode, while, there was no obvious difference between the two modes in degeneration of organic pollutants. The main reason probably was that the nitrification was carried out only in part of reaction time because of the periodic changes of sequencing batch mode, which also affected the growth of nitrification bacterium.SGSBR process provides good effects on organic matter degradation and do not have strict requirement of the control of dissolved oxygen, it also can reduces the complex degree of operation and running. Due to high biomass and structural characteristics of packing itself, suspended carrier with high loading density can form hypoxia environment,which can resist the change of dissolved oxygen.
