China is a big production country of electrolytic aluminium, but the unit power consumption of aluminium production is high. Anode conductive device is an important conductive part of electrolyzer, so the design of a new connection method and equipment to aluminium guide rod and steel fixing shaft composite structure is important for saving energy in the production of aluminium.As an efficient, precise, energy saving, high-quality solid-phase connection technology, friction welding is an advanced welding technology which is widely used in industry today. Continuous drive friction welding technology has been used for welding test of large cross-section cast aluminum and Q235 steel dissimilar metals.By means of the microstructure, electron microprobe, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis and micro-hardness testing, the results show that there has been a good friction welding properties between the large cross-section cast aluminum and steel, achieving a reliable connection between the two,which provides a theoretical basis for the connection of aluminium guide rod and steel fixing shaft composite structure.Joint resistance rate measurement showed that:The resistivity of welding joints is between aluminum and Q235 steel.Compared with the explosion welding, friction welding save energy significantly.Applying of ANSYS software, axisymmetric three-dimensional thermo-mechanical coupled finite element model of steel and aluminium in continuous drive friction welding process is built. The welding temperature field near the weld is simulated and obtained with the consideration of geometric nonlinearity, material nonlinearity, and friction interface nonlinear behaviour in the welding process. Using SolidWorks software, a preliminary three-dimensional design of welding and ancillary equipment is conducted. On the same time, using the plugin-Animator, we animate the welding process to the welder, which provide the design ideas and technical support for the manufacture of welder in the future.
