Al-based amorphous alloys have attracted much attention due to its special performance such as high specific strength, good ductility, corrosion resistance and reasonably low price. But because of its low glass forming ability,it is difficulty to extend its application. In this paper the bondings of the multilayer Al86Ni9Y5 amorphous ribbons,Al86Ni9Y5 amorphous ribbon/Al,and Al86Ni9Y5 amorphous ribbon/Cu by vacuum diffusion welding were obtained. The microstructure, appearance and elements diffusion behavior of the diffusion interfaces were studied by means of XRD,SEM,and EDS.The test results indicated that under the condition of heating temperature 260℃time 45min and pressure 1.0MPa,the multilayer Al86Ni9Y5 amorphous ribbons were successfully joined. Al86Ni9Y5 amorphous ribbon/Al were successfully joined while the process parameters were as follows:heating temperature 230℃time 45min and pressure 0.5MPa. While heating temperature 290℃time 60min and pressure 1.5 MPa,Al86Ni9Y5 amorphous ribbon/Cu were successfully joined. In this paper, the diffusion bonding mechanism of amorphous alloys was also discussed. The diffusion bonding processes consists of two stages:one is the plastic deformation stage and the other is the void shrinkage stage. The test results of the diffusion bonding of Al86Ni9Y5 amorphous ribbon/Al show that the pressure has an important effect on the macroscopic deformation of materials. The larger the pressure is,the more the deformation of materials is.During the diffusion bonding of Al86Ni9Y5 amorphous ribbon/Cu,the temperature and the time have important effects on the elements diffusion behavior. While the temperature was increased, the diffusion speed and the diffusion distance were increased, too. And prolonging the time is good for forming the uniform composition joint.
