The development and current research of strip electrode in China are introduced in this paper. According to the strip electrode's classification, the Austenitic strip electrode, Martensitic strip electrode, Duplex stainless steel strip electrode and Ni-based strip electrode are described respectively. By Compareing Chinese standard [JB/T 4747.4—2007]with Japanese standard [JISZ 3322], according to which we contrast the chemical constituents, dimension deviation, surface quality and material properties of domestic(ANTAI,Harbin Welding Institute) and import strip(AVESTA,WELSS). The result shows that the carbon content of import strip is lower than the domestic one. But both of the strip's content are within the scope of the standards. And the import strip has a bettet quality than the import one in thickness deviation, surface finish and hardness.We contrasted the welding performance among domestic and import stainless strip electrodes in the same surfacing processes. The test results indicated that the materials involved in the experiments are qualified after welding, mechanical properitise can meet the demands, different materials vary greatly in different regions after welding, ferrite content is also larger and the chemical composition of the deposited metal are in line with standards.The welding parameters on the effect of the surfacing height and width, penetration, rate of dilution of strip surfacing is investigated, and the proper parameters of strip surfacing is established. The results showed that parameters has little effect on weld width, what impact the dilution rate mainly is high penetration and the surfacing height, shallow penetration and the increase of surfacing height can make the dilution ratio drops. In the situation of same dilution ratio, increase the surfacing height with increased penetration, it has a serious impact to the dilution rate and weld microstructure, and it will consume more welding materials and power. Therefore, shallow penetration as possible and appropriate surfacing height is needed. The welding current and speed is the main parameters impact the penetration and surfacing height. In order to get a perfect surfacing layer, appropriate welding current and speed is needed. Considering the current domestic stainless steel welding strip, in order to further promote the application and development of the strip surfacing, on one hand existing smelting production process and products should be improved, On the other hand, new welding strip products need vigorously developed.
