Establishment Of A Gel Ink Thixotropic System And The Effects Of Thixotropic System On Writing Properties

Although China is the major manufacture of ball-point pens in gel ink, whose output has been ranking in the first in recent years, most of the core material of ball-point pens in gel ink, Gel ink, is still rely on importing so far. Gel ink import prices have been high, has become a foreign enterprises in China gel ink pen business "profit porter",gel ink has restricted China's sustainable development of pen manufacturing industry. Thus, it is imperative to produce gel ink domestically.This paper starts from summarizing the definition, characteristic and relative technological background of gel ink, and then addressed the main technological problems in research and development of gel ink that can be generalized in two aspects: the stablement and disperse of pigment were carried out in hydro system, the thixotropic of gel ink was established.This paper is based on the establishment of a thixotropic and stable system of a gel ink. The effect of various factors of gel ink during the preparation on thixotropic was reviewed. At first, the effect of many surfactants and their mixture to the thixotropic of gel ink was studied, and the internal of the two was associated. Secondy,by means of researching on the effect of diameter of particles to thixotropic. The range of the diameter of particles was confirmed. The important part of the establishment of gel ink thixotropic was the additional of thixotropic additive. Research on the mechanism of different kinds of thixotropic additive and the effect to the stability of gel ink. The suitable thixotropic additive for gel ink was selected and the suitable addition quantity for gel ink was determined.In gel ink system, the total quality of polyol related to the character of moisture retentiona, antifreezing, thixotropic of gel ink. In order to promise kinds of character, the total quality of polyol was limited to suitable scope, the maximum thixotropic index was obtained in this scope.The character of gel ink was detected by writing test. The matching of ink make by oneself and different writing heads was studied. The results showed : the character of moisture retentiona, antifreezing, thixotropic etc. achieved the national level.In short, based on many experimental, the stablement and disperse of pigment were carried out in hydro system, the thixotropic of gel ink was established. The good gel ink was made out, the relation between thixotropic index and the choice of writing head was established. The operation instruction was provided for client.
