N-(3-C12~C18alkoxy-2-hydroxy-propyl)-N,N-dimethyl betain was synthesized in this paper vis a three-step process, using Dodecanol, Epichlorohydrine, Dimethylamine and Chloroacetic Acid Sodium as the starting material. The influence factors on reaction temperature, reactant molar ratio, reaction time and amount of catalyst and so on were investigated, the optimal condition was obtaind, the products were characterized by infrared spectroscopy. The optimal condition: in the reaction of 3-alkoxy-2-hydroxy-1-chloropropane, select Benzenemethanaminium as the catalyst, reaction molar ratio is 1.0:1.1, Epichlorohydrin dripping temperature is 65 centigrade, dropping time is 1.5 hours, the reaction temperature is 95 centigrade. In the reaction of N-(3-alkoxy-2-hydroxy-propyl)-N,N-dimethyl tertiary Amine , reaction temperature is 85 centigrade, reaction molar ratio is 1.0:1.2, the reaction time is 20 hours. In the reaction of N-(3-alkoxy-2-hydroxy-propyl)-N,N-dimethyl tertiary amine and Sodium Chloroacetate, reaction temperature 80 centigrade, reaction time is 4 hours, reaction molar ratio is 1.0:1.1. The yield of the product is more than 78 percent under the suitable conditions.In this paper, the synthesized product was evaluated on the surface tention, interfacial tention, rheological, emulsifying performance and flooding experiment, which are based on the synthsis reaction. The experiment results show that the surfactant product showed good surface activity, N-(3-18alkoxy-2-hydroxy-propyl)-N,N-dimethyl betaine ritical micelle concentration is 4.9 mmol/L, the surface tension is 29.8mN/m. N-(3-alkoxy-2-hydroxy-propyl)-N,N-dimethyl Betain can improve the rheology of Polymer. The stability of emulsion increased with the increase of surfactant concentration. The interfacial tension of N-(3-alkoxy-2-hydroxy-propyl)-N,N-dimethyl Betain and Fuyu Oil of Jilin Province fell to 10-3 mN/m level, when adding alkalescent. Surfactant flooding oil recovery is up to 11.8 percent, vis 0.2 percent mass fraction of N-(3-18alkoxy-2-hydroxy-propyl)-N,N-dimethyl Betain, it have good compounding and better flooding effects with Polymer, its binary system recovery reached 17.3 percent, improve 3.2 percent compared to Polymer flooding.
