The synthesis of zeolite UZM-5 with hydrothermal method in the tetraethylammonium hydroxide (TEAOH)-tetramethylammonium chloride (TMACl) two-organic component system was studied. The products were characterized using X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetry. The crystallization process and growth of zeolite UZM-5 were investigated.The results indicated that the zeolite UZM-5 could be synthesized when the ratio was SiO2:0.16-0.5 Al2O3:0.4-1.0 TEAOH:0.064-0.13 TMACl:20 H2O. Too high temperature was disadvantageous to the crystallization process. Zeolite UZM-5 could be synthesized in the temperature range of 403-423 K. Too long time would lead to the crystallization of zeolite sodalite. The synthesis of zeolite UZM-5 with silica sol need 2 days, while silicic acid 4 days and silica gel 5 days. A small amount of Na+ ions resulted in the crystallization of zeolite UZM-9 and had an effect on the phase selectivity.The aging time also had an effect on the synthesis, and too short aging time would lead to the crystallizationg of zeolite UZM-9.UZM-5 could be synthesized with aging time 15 hours.Stirring aging too much was disadvantageous to the crystallization of UZM-5 and the proper aging time was 10 hours, which would require shorter crystallization time.UZM-5 could be synthesized by one step which would not change the growth of crystal and simpled the synthesis.The synthesis use silica sol as the sililca source would lead to the transform of zeolites among UZM-5, UZM-9, Beta and SOD.It's useful for the further search of the synthesis.
