In this paper, three kinds of ligands, 4'-(4-methyoxyphenyl)-2,2':6',2"- terpyridine (tripy), imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic (H3IDC) and 2-methyl-imidazole- 4,5-dicarboxylic (H3MIA) were synthesized. The crystals of three series of compounds were synthesized by the hydrothermal/solvothemal reaction or solution vapor methods from the three ligands and appropriate transitional metals or alkaline-earth metals. All complexes were characterized by infrared spectrum, elemental analysis, fluorescence spectroscopy and powder X-ray diffraction.Compared the structures of the eleven complexes, we can found that the complex 3, 4 and 11 are mononuclear structure, complex 8, 9, 10 are binuclear structure, complex 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 are coordination polymers, among these five complexes, 1 is a 3D framework structure and 2, 5, 6, 7 are 2D framework structures. Complex 4, 6 and 7 are bonded into supermolecular structure resulting from inter-molecular hydrogen bond interaction. In addition, the fluorescence properties of complex 6-8 were also studied. The results showed that these complexes could emit strong blue fluorescence, which indicated they can be used as optical crystal material in certain applications.
