In this paper, six novel coordination compounds of 3-aminomethypyridine derivatives, which have never been reported previously, were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. This article displays a systematical research of their syntheses and structures. In order to survey the influence of the properties of pyridine ligands on the structures of coordination compounds, tow kinds of ligands containing pyrdidine groups [L1=N,N′-bis(3-pyridylmethylamino)butane and HL=4-((3-pyridyl)methylamino)benzoic acid] were selected for study, and six novel coordination polymers based on of pyrdidine groups have been synthesized: [Ni2(BTC)2(H2L1)(H2O)]·4H2O (1), [Ni2(HBTC)2(L1)(H2O)6]·1.5H2O (2), [Cd(L)Cl]n (3), [CdL2]n (4), [CoL2]n (5), [NiL2]n (6) (BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate anion). Compounds 1 and 2 display two kinds of coordination and packing properties in spite of using the same ligand. Compounds 1 displays three-dimensional (3D) network structures and compounds 2 exhibits 2D rectangular grid, while compounds 3-6 display three-dimensional or two-dimensional network structures. The crystal structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In addition the compounds were characterized by IR, elemental analysis and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA).
