Organotin complexes have been used extensively as catalysts, bactericidal and anti-cancer properties, stabilizers, anti-fouling agents and wood preservatives, and so on, in the industrial, agricultural and medical fields. Their wide applications have attracted considerable attention to the chemical workers. Therefore, it is very important to synthesize novel organotin carboxylates and study their properties. In this paper, we use the synthetical (E)-3-(3-nitrophenyl)acrylic acid (HL1) and (E)-3-(2-nitrophenyl)acrylic acid (HL2) as acid ligands, Six novel organotin carboxylates, [Ph3SnL1]n·C6H6 (1), [(Ph3SnL1)4]n (2), [(Ph3Sn)2OL1(Ph3Sn)L1]n (3), [Bu2 L1SnOSnL1Bu2]2 (4), [Ph3Sn L2]n (5) and{[Bu2Sn(L2)]2O}2 (6) were prepared by the reaction of n-Bu2SnO, Ph3SnOH and the carboxylic acids (HL1, HL2)。The ligands and their metal complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy, and the structure of the complexes were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis show that: Complexes 1,2 and 5 adopt 1D polymeric chain structures which are generated by the bidentate bridging carboxylate ligands and the five-coordinated tin centers. The tin atoms in the complexes are five coordinate, which constitute as the central tin atom in a distorted trigonal bipyramidal configuration. It is worth noting that, altering the reaction time with the same mole ratio by HL1 and Ph3SnOH, complexes 1 and 2 have been gained. But HL2 have no this trait. Complex 3 possesses a novel chain structure, the tin atoms in the complex are also five coordinate. Complex 4 involve a centrosymmetric structure which built up around a planar, four-membered cyclic Sn2O2 unit. The structure of complex 6 is similar to complex 4, but complex 6 is not centrosymmetric. The bioactivity of all the complexes was studied and the antitumor activity tests show that some of them exhibit good bioactivity.
