Milling surface quality is the most important factor in evaluating machining efficiency of transmission case, the present machining process of case is discussed and the key problems during machining are studied especially. This paper is on the demand of manufactory for the working productivity improving, the cost decreasing and the economic benefit increasing. According to the theoretical and technical research work and results on high efficiency machining, by milling experimental comparison between coated cemented carbide insert GC1020 and uncoated ultrafine cemented carbide insert YS8, do the study on milling mechanism of grey cast iron and application on high efficiency machining process of transmission case.Main study in this paper include:1. Systematically analyze and summarizes advantages and the present status of high efficiency machining technology, some key techniques are discussed such as mechanism of high speed-efficiency cutting, advanced coating and the match principles between tool material and workpiece, the optimized tool structure and the edge geometry, the developed milling strategy including Trochoidal milling, Plunge milling, helix milling. This technology can give such advantage as the cost decreasing and high efficiency.2. On the basis of milling experiments which are carried out to, investigate the milling mechanism of grey cast iron including the milling forces, tool wear, chip morphology characteristic and surface roughness. Furthermore, theoretically analyzes and find the disciplinarian of the cast iron dry milling area.3. Base on the principle of Uniform experiment design, select influence of milling parameters including cutting speed , feed rate per tooth and cut depth as experimental factor, the surface roughness is studied experimentally in details and a quadratic model of predicting the roughness of milling is developed using Partial Least Squares Regression method. The model shows very satisfactory agreement with those obtained by the experiments.4. Using Response Surface Method analyses the model, aim at much low the surface roughness and high efficiency, obtain a series suitable machining process predictive data of transmission case in GC1020 and YS8.5. Finally this paper analyzes and summarizes tool performance for the dry machining of grey cast iron with GC1020 and YS8, gives the optimized milling parameters and the suitable process for machining transmission case. The results used in manufacture practice show that the developed high efficiency machining technologies may greatly promote the machining efficiency, improve the surface quality and reduce the machining cost。...
