Hot blast stove is an important assistant equipment during the blast furnace smelting, whose performance could influence its running normally, use efficiency and lifespan as well hot blast stove. As a result of its strong point such as powerful combustion, short-distance flame and relatively simple structure and so on, the new top combustion BF stove has been widely applied and advanced rapidly in recent years. Thereinto, Kalugin hot stove is the best one and grows fastest. But Kalugin hot stove was introduced later into our country, so the study of theory has been still less, its flow field and mixing characteristics are also lack of systematic examination. It is worthy to study Kalugin hot stove with regard of its structural characteristics technological advantage.Under the guidance of the similarity theory, an experimental model of Kalugin hot stove which the geometric similarity ratio is one tenths to the prototype is built according to the hot blast sotove which is used in 2000m3 blast furnaces. Based on cold-state experiment, flow field and mixing characteristics of Kalugin hot stove model are tested, including homogeneous character of the nozzle outlet, mixing characteristics of air and gas in pre-combustion chamber and uniformity of velocity distributions and concentration distributions in throat and combustion chamber. Meanwhile, the effects of resistance characteristics on flow field distributions are researched, and the coefficient of resistance loss is obtained. The experimental results indicate that the evenness of the nozzle outlet of air and gas separately reached 92.67% and 89.18%, there is circulating flow field exist in the heart of combustion chamber, the velocity distributions and concentration distributions of outlet are symmetrical.Based on the governing equation and k-εturbulence model which suits to the gas flow in the top-firing hot blast stove, the three-dimensional model which is correspond with cold-state model is solved by FLUENT commercial software while experimental study. With the boundary conditions of velocity inlet, the flow field and mixing characteristics of Kalugin hot stove is simulated. According to the simulation results, velocity distributions, concentration distributions and pressure distributions are analyzed as well as axial velocity, axial concentration and axial pressure. The simulation results can match experimental results well by comparing the conclusions. So the authenticity and reliability of flow field and mixing characteristics of air and gas are validated mutually, while deepening and enriching the acquaintanceship of flow field and mixing characteristics about Kalugin hot stove.
