Nanosized titanium oxide (TiO2) is a kind of very important products with good properties of pigment, which is non-toxic and tasteless duo to its chemical stability. So it can be widely used in the papermaking and other related industries. In order to widely use nanosized TiO2 in the paper industry, it is vital to how to reduce its production cost.The industrial titanic solution, the intermediate product of titanium dioxide pigment enterprises, was used as the start material to prepare the nanosized anatase and rutile TiO2 powder by using low-temperature liquid-phase method. The preparation cost was greatly reduced. The as-prepared samples were characterized by infra-redspectrum(FTIR),X-ray diffraction(XRD), layer scattering particle size analyzer, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), high resolution transmission electron microscope(HRTEM), transmission electron microscope(TEM), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller specific surface area(SBET) by N2 adsorption measurement, atomic force microscope(AFM) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). In addition, the dispersing of nanosized TiO2 in water and the applications of as-prepared rutile nanosized TiO2 in paper making were studied in this paper.By adding calcium carbonate to remove the sulfuric acid of the industrial titanic solution, then nitric acid and dispersing agents PEG-2000 were added, the nanosized anatase TiO2 powders were prepared under the conditions of low-temperature liquid-phase. The results showed that the nanosized TiO2 powders were spherical particles with size 4-10 nm, and had a narrow size distribution and good crystallinity. The SBET was 139.57 m2/g. The industrial titanic solution that was deal with diffusion dialysis was used to prepare nanosized TiO2 directly at low-temperature liquid-phase. The particles of TiO2 powders were spherical with a mean size 12 nm, SBET is 258.1 m2/g and good crystallinity.When the catalyst and suifuric acid was added to the industrial titanic solution that was deal with diffusion dialysis and reflux condensation heated at 100°C for 4 hours, with a mean size is 40 nm, have good crystallinity rutile nanaosized was prepared.The rutile nanosized TiO2 powder was dispersed by ammonium chloride, sodium citrate and sodium hexametaphosphate in the water.The particle size distribution and Zeta potential of nanosized TiO2 were measured by using laser particle size analyzer. It was concluded that Sodium hexametaphosphate on the dispersion of nanosized TiO2 is best.It was investgated that the rutile nanosized TiO2 replaced white pigment as fillers in the process of papermaking. By comparing the performance of adding the same amount rutile nanosized TiO2 and white pigment, when the nanosized TiO2 was used the paper properties and surface smoothness were significantly improved.
