The Cr12 type steels are very common cold work tool steel in China.But there're very few valuable literature about the failure analysis of these steels-made mould,which makes it inconvenient for people to get acquaint of this type steels-made mould's failure analysis.So this article has the referrence value for these people.With the development of the economy ,the mould industry was developing fast in our country,the need for high-grade mould is getting more urgent.Due to the backward processing facility, die development ability and the inferior mould material,some home-made mould's life is only 1/2 to 1/10 of that of abroad-made. From which we know the significance of doing research into the failure analysis for the development of the mould quality in our nation.Nowaday,the mould is getting more and more accurate,large scale and versatile,so the cost for making the mould is getting more expensive.If the mould get fractured,the economic losses would get higher.So the research for the mould fracture also have the huge significance for saving money.We chooses some Cr12 type steels-made mould failure examples to analyse in order to find the failure reasons,to prevent the similar failure happen again.There're some main reasons cause the failure:the inferior mould steels , irrational forging process, irrational heattreatment technics,and so on.Considering the factors that influence the mould's quality,the article proposes some advises to prevent the failure.The first chapter introduces the current situation of mould industry in China,and the significance of mould failure analysis by the means of showing the great harm caused by the failure of the mould.And then it confirm the research direction and the main research contents.The second chapter introduces the Cr12 type steels.The third chapter introduces the common failure forms of cold working mould: failure caused by overload,failure caused by wear,failure caused by fatigue.It also introduces some common factors cause the failure:the inferior steels,the irrational design of the mould, the irrationa mechanical processing, the irrationa heattreatment technics,the improper use of the mould.In the end of the chapter,the article proposes some advices to avoid the mould's early failure.The fourth chapter introduces the steps of failure analysis for the Cr12 type steels-made cold working mould. The fifth chapter introduces many examples of failure analysis for the Cr12 type steels-made cold working mould. In the end of the chapter, we got the failure reasons for the moulds.The fifth chapter's content includes the conclusion of the article and the prospect for the Cr12 type steels-made die failure analysis in the future.
