Polyethylene is one of the world's more commonly used plastic. However, linear low density polyethylene(LLDPE) is also a common commercial plastic. Because of its Mechanical ductility, chemical resistance, low density, low toxicity, good electrical insulation and good processing properties, LLDPE has been widely applied in Wire and cable, pipe and other construction areas. However, LLDPE is easy to catch fire and its limiting oxygen index (LOI) value is only 17%. In order to reduce the combustion properties of LLDPE, In recent years,a variety of flame retardants are used in LLDPE. The intumescent flame retardant was widely used in LLDPE. Because LLDPE is a non-polar materials and Higher crystallinity, The compatibility of LLDPE and polar flame retardant is very poor. In order to improve the flame retardancy of LLDPE. People to increase the flame retardancy of LLDPE, polar groups is added in LLDPE to improve compatibility of LLDPE and intumescent flame retardant, it has become a hot point in flame retardant area.In this work, a kind of flame retardancy of LLDPE/EAEM Material was prepared. Because improve the dispersion of intumescent flame retardant in LLDPE/EAEM, EAEM were added in the LLDPE as elastomer. A novel intumescent flame retardant (IFR) consisting of CFA, APP and a little synergistic agents. OMMT and SR as synergistic agents. The novel intumescent flame retardant (IFR) was used in LLDPE/EAEM. The results of LOI and UL-94 showed that the efficiency of IFR was best when APP/CFA was 3:1. Synergistic agents had a certain role in flame retardancy of Material. The efficiency of synergistic agents was best when the loading of OMMT and SR in IFR reached 6w%. While, the synergistic effect of OMMT was best. In this work, the mass rate of LLDPE/EAEM in blends was discussed. The result showed that the general properties of material were best when the mass rate of LLDPE/EAEM was 8:1.The flame retardancy, mechanical properties, thermal degradation behavior, the combustion behavior and carbon residue of intumescent flame retardant LLDPE/EAEM composites were characterized by limitting oxygen index instrument, Vertical Burning Instrument, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) cone calorimeter (CONE) and Scanning Electron Microscope. EAEM improved the dispersion of intumescent flame retardant in LLDPE/EAEM, when it was added in the LLDPE as elastomer, so Improved flame retardant of LLDPE/EAEM. The flame retardant of LLDPE/EAEM was Improved when synergistic agents OMMT and SR was added in intumescent flame retardant. the heat release rate, the smoke production release rate, total heat release, co release rate. The synergistic agents made the time to ignition of flame retardant LLDPE/EAEM composites shorten. The synergistic agents could promote the thermal degradation of flame retardant composites, increase the rate of residue carbon. They were helpful to formation of stable and dense char layer that increased the flame retardancy of LLDPE/EAEM.
