Two-photon absorption has shown great potential applications in high-density data storage, single-molecule detection, medical diagnosis, three-dimensional microfabrication and many other fields due to its unique optical response, nonlinear properties,3D processing capabilities and high spatial resolution. Of course, the materials with excellent properties are the basis for wider application. Therefore,to get the materials with large two-photon absorption cross section as well as strong two-photon fluorescence has become one of the most attractive topics. This study reports the synthesis and the two-photon absorption (TPA) properties of a series of 9, 10-anthracene-centered oligo(p-phenyleneethynylene)s with end-capping didecylamine. The results show that both the maximal TPA cross sections (δmax) and the fluorescence quantum yields (Φ) of the oligomers increase with the extension of phenylethynyl bridges. The maximal TPA cross sections (δmax) of all the compounds increases from 482GM to 1510GM with the extension of the phenyethynyl bridges. All the compounds are strongly fluorescent and the fluorescence quantum yields (Φ) increases from 0.53 to 1.0 with the extension of the phenyethynyl bridges. Moreover, these oligomers all show the maximal two-photon absorption cross sections at 800 nm.Two novel alternating copolymers, poly[(2,6-bis(dihexylaminostyryl)anthracene- 9,10-diyl)-alter-co-(N-octylcarbazole-3,6-diyl)] (P1) and poly[(2,6-bis(dihexyl- amino- styryl)anthracene-9,10-diyl)-alter-co-(N-octylcarbazole-2,7-diyl)] (P2). P1 and P2 are amorphous and have glass transition temperatures of 131℃and 152℃. The maximalδTPA of P1 and P2 all appear at 800 nm and are 1010GM and 970GM per repeating unit, respectively. Theseδvalues are large and obviously higher than that of the linear and hyperbranched conjugated polymers reported in literatures. The fluorescence quantum yields are 0.78 for P1 and 0.75 for P2. We also study the synthesis of the cruciforms.
