In this paper we first introduced the main research progress about ethers and capability.Crown ethers is an auto synthetic acceptor. New crown ether that can identify a metal ion andhas better selectivity had designed to applicate to ions selectivity. Crown ether in metal ionrecognition side, molecular catalysis, and selective migration has important value. Many sortsof Lariat ether with donor group were designed. Compared with matrix of crown ether, Lariatether with donor group has better linkage and selectivity. There is a good path to design Lariatether is donor group adhibited in benzene ring, which was valued by chemist.A series of benzocrown ether substituting group were synthesized by pyrocatechol andphenol with glycol bis(p-toluene sulfonate). The substituent were adhibited in benzene ring, and germinal substitutional pyrcatechol was synthesized by oxidation and, germinal andreduction. There are 11 germinal substitutional benzo-crown ether. Their surtcture werecharacterized by 1H NMR,MS,IR and elemental analysis. The first eight of compoundproduct were not reported in literature. Bipyridine-glycoluril compound was synthesizedby1,10-phenanthroline and urea, and then with two crown ether of urea compounds weresynthesized by benzo crown ether and bipyridine-glycoluril compound. Its structure wascharacterized, and consistent with the design of compounds. The selectivity to ions of 8 novel benzocrown ether was studied. The variation toabsorption wavelength of novel benzocrown ether and their solution complexes wereanalysised, and their absorbance was compared. Their selectivity or identify to metal ionswere evaluated qualitatively by researching their complex ability to metal ions LTV spectrum. The results indicate that the selectivity or identity to ions of substitutional benzocrown etheris not only related to the change in size of crown ether but also to posixion and size ofsubstituent in benzene ring of benzocrown ether.
