The electromagnetic levitation melting is a crucibleless processing technology, which using a technology make materials and containers do not touch with each other. It is an indispensable technology in materials science research, preparation of high purity materials. It has advantages of no contamination, melting uniformity, rapid melting and rapid gas-liquid phase balance on surface.In this paper, electromagnetic levitation effect is analyzed theoretically from the induction coil structure parameters and the power supply frequency parameters, and the analysis of results are validated in experiment researchs.At first, this paper analyzes the effect on the levitation force and temperature in electromagnetic levitation melting from induction coil structure parameters. The influence of the parameters of the induction coil and the levitation force is analyzed detailedly through the oretical calculation, and also is the influence of the parameters of the induction coil and the temperature. This can provide a theoretical basis on the structure design of the induction coil.Second, this paper analyzes the effect on the levitation force and absorbed power in electromagnetic levitation melting from power supply frequency parameters. The paper establishes the relation between levitation force, absorbed power and the power supply frequency, and obtains general rules of frequency parameter selection. The frequency should be selected between f2 corresponding to minimum of absorbed power and f1 at which the increase of levitation force slow down, closing to f1 as near as possible. And this plays a guiding role in the frequency selection of power supply in electromagnetic levitation melting.Finally, the electromagnetic levitation experiments are researched greatly. Thirty-eight induction coils are produced, and nearly a thousand times levitation melting experiments are carried using three power supllies and cylindrical, spherical steel from 0.8g to 15g. The best of the induction coil structure parameters are got through considering both levitation force and levitation stability. The cylindrical and spherical samples from 1.49g to14g can be levitated and melt under the protection of quartz tube full of argon gas. And the levitation time ranges from tens of seconds to 10 minutes.
