Currently, recycling of waste plastics with modification is the development of resource reclamation. Some mechanical properties of plastic products with modification can meet or exceed the performance of the original resin products, so it has high added value. Waste TV shell plastic holds a large proportion in waste electronic plastic. The expoitation of recycling technology modification waste TV shell plastic can not only reduce the pollution of waste TV shell plastic on the environment, but also make waste profitable.In this paper,ICP-AES, FTIR, elemental analysis, TG-DSC,GC-MS, GPC, mechanical properties testing and other analytical methods were used for the analysis of components and properties of waste TV shell plastic. The results showed that the main component of waste TV plastic shell is high impact polystyrene(HIPS), and flame retardants are brominated flame retardants, mainly composed of decabromodiphenyl oxide(DBDPO).After used for a long time, there is some degradation in waste TV shell plastic.Mechanical property test of materials showed that the rate of impact strength and elongation at break of waste TV shell plastic decreased relatively large, and the tensile strength is close to the lower limit of the reference value, while the flexural strength is within the reference range. The impact strength of waste TV shell plastic can be improved by toughening, so recycling of waste TV shell plastic with modification is feasible.To deal with the declining of the impact strength of waste TV shell plastic, rubber elastomer: styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) or styrene-butadiene-styrene copolymer (SBS) were used to increase the impact strength of waste TV shell plastic. In this paper, the waste TV shell plastic HIPS was modified on the twin-screw extruder by adding new material polystyrene (PS) and plasticizer (SBS and SBR) and other additives. The influences of the plasticizer SBS and SBR respectively impacting on mechanical property of waste TV shell plastic HIPS were studied and then the optimal toughening formulas were obtained .The addition of toughening agents greatly increased the impact properties of waste TV shell plastic. Based on the optimal toughening formula, investigating the influence of nano-organic montmorillonite (OMMT) impacting on mechanical, thermal and flame retardant properties,we obtained the optimal reinforcing formula.?The modified waste TV shell plastic achieve the relevant requirements of HIPS, and meet the production needs.Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed that the addition of OMMT can improve thermal stability and glass transition temperature of the modified waste TV shell plastic. Microscopic structure of the modified waste TV shell plastic was observed and the relationship between the microscopic structure and the impact properties was analysised by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) when rubber elastomer and OMMT were added,.The rougher the surface becomes, the better the impact properties is; XRD and STM test showed that OMMT makes the modified plastic have stripping and Intercalation structure, which can improve its performance. Also the flame retardant properties of waste TV shell plastic was investigated,with the result that OMMT was beneficial to improve the flame retardant properties of the modified waste TV shell plastic.
