Since 20th, high-performance polymer materials have been developed rapidly and brought great revolution. Due to their outstanding general properties, high-performance polymers are applied widely in sophisticated technique, national defense, national economy, and so on. As a very significant material,thermal-resistant polymer was developed and applied gradually, such as poly(aryl ketone)(PEEK, PEKK, PIK, et al), poly(arylene amide)s (HTTP, nylon et al), poly(imine amide)(PI). However, the wide applications of the polymers have been restricted by their quality of high preparative cost, insoluble refractory and good solvent-resistant (for example, PEEK can only be dissolved in oil of vitriol). Accordingly, much research work has been done on the modification of the structure and performance of polymers. Following this research background, the poly(imine sulfone) has been proposed, which can be considered as being a hybrid structure of poly(aryl sulfone)s, polyaramides and poly(arylene amide)s. Consequently, it should have excellent combinative properties, such as good dissolving capacity, easy modification of structure and good heat-resistant quality as well as the monomers are facile and cost is cheap. For these reasons, the poly(imine sulfone) has potential application prospect in many fields. The summary of our research was enumerated as follows.(1) Electron-poor aromatic 4,4'-dibromo diphenyl sulfone and 4,4'-diiodo diphenyl sulfone were synthesized via chlorosulfonation and Friedel-Crafts reaction. The structures were characterized by means of FT-IR, 1H-NMR, Elemental Analysis and DSC spectroscopy, which testing the melting point. The results showed good agreements with the proposed structures and good yields. The dihalo-diphenyl sulfones synthesized could fulfill the needs of synthesizing poly(imino sulfone)s with electron-rich aromatic diamines.(2) Electron-poor aromatic dibromides and electron-rich aromatic diamines as the monomers, a series of high molecular weight poly(imino sulfone)s were obtained via the condensation polymerization. The structures and properties were characterized by means of FT-IR, 1H-NMR, Elemental analysis, TG and DSC. The results showed good agreement with the proposed structures, good thermal stability with high decomposition temperature and good solubility. The influence of the halogen-containing monomers on the structure, molecular weight and polydispersity index (PDI) were investigated.(3) The poly(imino ether sulfone) (PIES) and poly(imino fluorene sulfone)(PIFS) could be obtained by introduced ether group and fluorene group into the polymer chain. PIES and PIFS possess good thermal stability and better solubility than PIS.
