At present, preparing and maintaining slurry with conventional bentonite in oil field operation have many faults(Such as the need of pre-hydration 16-24h; not very good dispersion and temperature resistance performance). In view of this situation, nano-bentonite composite for drilling fluid was made by intercalation to bentonite with acrylamide and its derivatives. The product can better meet requirements of the modern drilling technology. By X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy to ascertain the newly developed nano-bentonite composite layer structure, micro structure and preparation principles, and the performance of the composite was evaluated. The results show that the structure and properties of nano-bentonite composite are different with bentonite type, acrylamide and its derivatives. Comparing with conventional bentonite, the composite is easy to be mixed into drilling fluid with good stability. It has higher thermal stability, contamination tolerance and cuttings carrying and transporting capacity. A series of tests were conducted on FL control and viscosity effect and chemical compatibility with other mud agents and satisfactory achievements were obtained. Based on the laboratory study, have carried out industry research and established an industrial production line. Its production process is simple, its reaction conditions are mild, its operation is simple, and its raw materials are easy to get. Product quality is steady; the composite is environment-friendly product. The results of field application have shown that composite base drilling fluid system has good inhibition and anti-sloughing, lubrication anti-sticking, rheological properties. It can inhibit clay dispersion, keep hole stability, inhibit formation mud-yielding. And it is unlikely to cause expansion, dispersion, migration of clay minerals in reservoir, is conducive to ensure the smooth drilling and completion, and reservoir protection.
