Coal dust explosion character is related with the explosion power and the method to control the explosion. Doing research on the coal dust explosion and mechanism of dust explosion suppression can support the coal dust explosion suppression with theory. Nowadays, it is mature to study the character of the coal dust explosion, while it is weak to relate it with the explosion suppression. There are more researches about coal dust explosion control in the aspect of explosion isolation and venting of dust explosions.We structured the theoretical basis by studying coal dust explosion characters and their influencing factors, explosion mechanism, and the explosion suppression mechanism; then, we did authentication of coal dust explosibility, got the content of volatile material and explore the explosive power. After that, we did experiments to test the BET, void ratio, granularity index, dispersibility and so on, and finally got the coal dust chemical and physical parameters, which can instruct the development of the novel coal dust explosion suppressants. Based on those, we analyzed the parameters of existing explosion suppressants, pointed out the developing mechanism of novel explosion suppressants and then explored the combination suppressants. Eventually, we utilized the 20L sphere explosion test system to test the coal dust explosion characters and the suppressing effect of the novel suppressants.The main results indicate, coal dust explosion characters are not only related with the reaction conditions, but also have a bearing on the microcosmic chemical and physical parameters. The existence of gas influences the dust explosion characters markedly; a little gas can decrease the low limit of coal dust percentage of explosion dramatically; finally, the novel explosion suppressant developed by combination technology presents better than the conventional ones.
