The forming process and pollutant removal efficiency of the aerobic granular sludge are studied in this paper,the aerobic granular sludge is cultivated in the self-made biological reactor using the slaughter wastewater,the color of aerobic granular sludge is yellow and its average perticle diameter is 1.5mm after the 50d operation. And,the sludge concentration MLSS is up to 5166mg/L, sludge volume index SVI is 25-30ml/g;the removal efficiency of COD,ammonium nitrogen and total phosphorus is higher than 90%,85% and 80% respectively.The aerobic granular sludge is found to be cylindrical in the experiment owing to the str- uctural change of the reactor, its forming process and removal efficiency are studied, and the cylindrical aerobic granular sludge is compared with the cycloidal or elliptic including the starting time, micropopulation, removal efficiency and the energy consumption of the system.The cylindrical aerobic granular sludge whose mean aspect ratio is 5 and color is fresh yellow forms in the reactor after 25d operation, sludge concentration MLSS is 6000mg/L, the minimum value of sludge volume index SVI is 20ml/g; the removal efficiency of COD reaches to 98%, while the ammonium nitrogen and total phosphorus'is above 80% and 75% respectively.
