With the expansion of mining capability, maximization of mining equipment and increase of mining depth, roadway section also increases gradually, bringing about complex changes of surrounding rock physical state during roadway excavation, and further causing re-distribution of stress state, which gives rise to new problems concerning roadway excavation and supporting. Therefore, it provides reliable guarantee for efficient and safe production to carry out study on support stability of large section roadway.Based on analysis and summary of the current surrounding rock control and anchorage support technology of large section roadway and room at home and abroad, with the combined methods of theoretical analysis, numerical calculation and field experiment and observation, and with the large section roadways and rooms in Tunliu, Sima, Gaohe Coalmines of Lu'an Group as the engineering background, the paper probed into the problems connected with surrounding rock control and anchorage support technology. Optimization selection of the location of roadway in the strata was made.1) Through analysis of the influencing factors of surrounding stability, the paper analysized the roadway at the junction of two roadways in Gaohe Coalmine through numerical simulation with the result that floor heave has a serious influence on roadway and corresponding strengthening support measures should be taken to the roadways.2) Analysis were made in three kinds of surrounding rocks with different strata strengths in large section roadways including sandstone, sandy mydstone and coal seam with the result that the roadways with medium sandstone as surrounding rocks are relatively stable.3)Through contrast of stress, displacement, damage area, roof and two-side displacements in rectangular roadway and straight wall and semicircle arch roadway, suitable section beneficial for roadway stability was chosed.4) Surrounding rock mechanical effects caused by different excavation methods were simulated and analysized. Reasonable excavation steps of large section roadway were discussed. Relative study and analysis were made on excavation methods and roadway support during excavation, which reveals damage mechanism and patterns of roadway surrounding rocks. Reasonable excavation methods and support technology were put forward.
