In order to investigate the ecological security problems of the usage of compost produced by animal manure, the content of heavy metals:Pb,Cd,Cr,Cu, tetracycline antibiotic (TCs):oxytetracycline(OTC),tetracycline(TC)and chlortetracycline(CTC) and estrogens(EEs): estrone(E1),17a-estradiol(a-E2),17β-estradiol(β-E2),estriol(E3)were measured respectively in compost produced by animal manure, and effects of these pollutants on the growth and quality of bok choy were also studied. Methods including solid-phase extraction(SPE) combined with high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) for determination of TCs and SPE combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) for determination of EEs have been respectviely developed by optimizing pretreatment and analysis conditions.Test results indicated that there were many kinds of heavy metals,TCs and EEs in compost produced by animal manure. According to the limitations of mature compost in Germany, the percentages of the samples exceeding limitations for Cd, Cr and Cu were 3.9%,6.5% and 50.6%, respectively. The detection rates of OTC, TC,CTC and E1 were 9.1%,1.3%,1.3% and 1.3%respectively.The pot experiment indicated that the toxicity to bok choy was different with different heavy metals, and was deepened with the increasing of content levels of heavy metals. Pb treatment promoted vegetable growth, while others can cause the inhibition of normal growth, and especially Cd had the most serious impact on the growth and quality of the vegetable. These four kinds of heavy metals could be accumulated in vegetable, resulting in the decrease of the quality of bok choy.OTC,TC and CTC were not detected in vegetable due to too much low content, and had no obvious impacts on the growth of bok choy, but they had different impacts on its quality by blank tests. For example,it was found that OTC increased the quality of bok choy, and contrarily CTC decreased the quality of bok choy, and the impact of TC on bok choy still need to be further studied. Although E1,α-E2,β-E2 and E3 could not be detected in vegetable, but they were found to inhibit the gowth of bok choy and also decrease its quality.
